Branding Work with Jan Boyd Calligraphy

Jan Boyd of Jan Boyd Calligraphy hired us to photograph her work in a unique way. Her custom, fine-art hand lettering is beautifully crafted for a multitude of mediums. Some of her work includes hand lettered envelopes for any occasion, seating scrolls, programs, place cards, menus, and more. She is exceptionally talented and her elegant pieces are truly unique.

Jan wanted to refresh the photographs of her work with “new energy and light,” as she said. Jan is in the process of rebranding her company. She wanted to collaborate with other people whose work she admires. We were thrilled to be trusted with this project. Jan also hired Jennifer Iovino, of JMI Branding Forward to conceptualize and stylize the photo shoot. Jennifer’s vision incorporated some gorgeous papers, texture, and props to enhance Jan's artwork in such a stunning way. 

 Our approach to each photo shoot is to collaborate, partner and gather as much information about the client as we can to conceptualize the shoot before the big day. Jan and Jennifer consulted with us over the phone to discuss the scope of the project and our collective goals. The day of the shoot, we worked closely together as if it were a symphony. It was fantastic team work from everyone! 

The photo shoot took place at the gorgeous Giardini di Sole showroom in the "Sowa" district on Harrison Avenue in Boston. Giardini di Sole specializes in uniquely handcrafted ceramics, glassware, decorative accent pieces and stone tables imported exclusively from Italy. The space had gorgeous light and Libby Morris, their U.S. Director, let us incorporate some of their stunning pieces into the photo shoot. These colorful pieces added so much to the overall images. Jennifer had a fantastic handle on each of Jan’s pieces and she knew ahead of time what additional items she wanted to use for each specific shot. We all respected one other’s sense of style and it was great to hear what everyone thought. Collectively, it was so much fun!

Throughout the day, Jennifer would bring out a piece of Jan's work, position it with some interesting props, I would shoot it and they would all yell... "That’s it!” We nailed it! We would all get super excited as to how the image looked in the camera. It really felt magical. Our common goal was to bring life to each image through art, styling, gorgeous Italian pieces and photography. That goal was achieved. We love the way everything fit together beautifully.

We would like to thank Jan for trusting us with telling her unique story through her artwork. Thank you also to Jennifer for pulling all of the pieces together and assisting us in executing her impeccable vision. A huge thank you to Libby for letting us use the showroom in Boston. We kept drooling over the Italian pieces and felt like we had been transported to Italy! This shoot was a wonderful collaboration and we’re really pleased with the results.
