Photography and the Power of Storytelling

Photographing Pros & Conversation, the annual gala for WordPowered, formerly WriteBoston is always inspiring. Their mission centers around "helping young people find and use their voices through writing, reading, and discussion."

This year's event at GBH Studios brought together more than 170 supporters and raised over $100,000 for programs including Teens in Print and Collaborative Coaching.

One of the most memorable moments came from student writer Ketura Joseph, who shared:

"Writing is one of the only ways that the past, future, and present can talk to one another."

That was such a meaningful and thought-provoking line. The evening was about the power of words, but it was also full of visual stories. The pride on students’ faces. The connection between educators and supporters. The energy in the room as young writers stepped forward and shared their work.

That’s what I love about photographing events like this. The images become part of the story too.

Congratulations to WordPowered, the scholarship recipients, educators, and young leaders who reminded everyone in the room of the powerful it is to find your voice and use it.
